Olomouc City



One of the important Czech Republic cities is the ancient Olomouc city. Lying in the central part of the Hana region of the country, the Olomouc city is one of the oldest cities in Czech Republic. The Olomouc city in Czech Republic has a rich educational history.

One of the oldest universities in the country, the university in Olomouc was established in 1573. It was also an important trade route of that time. One of the major seats of Czech culture, Olomouc city boasts of some great cultural and tourism sites like the:

Olomouc city was once the capital of Marovia and enjoyed that status till the seventeenth century. The earlier glory of the Olomouc city was lost to a great extent during the occupation of the town by the Swedish forces. Much of the town was destroyed and looted by the Swedish army. The thirty year long war devastated many towns and cities of the country and Olomouc was not the only sufferer. However, the city has fought back from the disaster to regain much of its glory days. The present city is the home to a population of more than hundred thousand. With such a huge population, Olomouc city is the fifth largest among the towns and cities of the country.
