The crescent, stars, and green color are the traditional symbols of Islam.
The national flag of Comoros consists of four horizontal stripes: the top stripe is yellow followed by white, red, and blue, which are at the bottom of the flag. On the left side of the Comoros flag is a green horizontal triangle that consists of a white crescent with four, five-pointed stars lined up vertically.
The crescent, stars, and green color represent Islam which is the dominant religion of Comoros. The four colors: yellow, white, red, and blue symbolize the four islands of the nation: Moheli, Mayotte, Anjouan, and Grand Comore. The four stars on the flag also represent these islands.
The flag was designed in 2001 but got official approval only on January 7, 2002.
