Heilongjiang is an important province in China.
The Heilongjiang province in China is located in the northeastern part of the country. It has an area of 454,000 square kilometers, which constitute 4.7% of the country’s total surface area. The Heilongjiang administration include 13 prefectures and cities, 1,211 townships, 14,488 villages and 66 counties.
Heilongjiang Geography
Some of the important rivers that flow through the province are Heilong, Songhua, Wusuli and Nenjiang river. The lakes that are found in Heilongjiang in China include the Jingbo and Xingkai lakes.

Russia is its immediate neighbor on the eastern side with the Heilongjiang and Wusuli rivers flowing between them. The Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region is situated on the western side of the province and the Jilin Province is in the south.
The topography of Heilongjiang is also shaped by numerous volcanoes and mountains. Housing some of the most important national reserves and forests, these mountains have turned into important sightseeing spots in the country. Some such destinations include ‘the volcano museum’, the Crater National Forest Park, the Yima National Forest Park and many more. The Greater Hinggan Mountains are situated in the northwestern part of the province and the Lesser Hinggan mountains are located in the northern part. The southeastern part of Heilongjiang has the Laoye, Zhangguangcai and Taiping ridges.

As of in the year 2005, Heilongjiang has an estimated population of 38,170,000 people. The population density is 83 people per kilometer square. Majority of the population are comprised of the Hans, who account for 95% of the total population. The Manchu people account for 3% of the total population, Koreans constitute 1%, Mongols 0.4% and the Huis 0.3%. Some of the other important demographical facts include:

New plans are being made to link Harbin with Changxing. The Suidong line is under construction that is meant to link the Eastern ports of Russia with that of eastern parts of Heilongjiang province.
Heilongjiang has a well developed roadway infrastructure especially with highways like the Shenha Expressway, which is also considered to be the longest four lane highway in China. This expressway links Harbin in Heilongjiang to Shenyang.
