Guangxi is a large autonomous province located in the south eastern region of China. The northern part of the province is bordered by mountain ranges. The province of Yunnan lies to the west of Guangxi. The province of Guangdong is located to the south eastern part of Guangxi. To the northeast of the province of Guangxi is Hunan, to the north of it lies Guizhou.
The geography of Guangxi is varied. The western region of Guangxi is dominated by the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and has an altitude higher to the eastern and south eastern regions which are low lying areas. The central region of the province has hills and plains. Hills occupy about 85% of the totral area of the province while 15% of the entire region consists of plain lands. The mountain ranges in Guanxi are nanling Mountains, Dayao Mountains, Yunkai Mountains, Haiyang Mountains, Daming Mountains and Yuecheng Mountains.
Guangxi is drained by the rivers Hongshui, Yujiang and Zhujiang. Yujiang is the longest river and Zhujiang flows from the western part of the province to the eastern part. The region of Guangxi has large deposits minerals including limestone, manganese, lead, zinc and copper.

The 2005 census showed the population of Guangxi to be 49.25 million with a growth rate of 8.17%. The people inhabiting this province are from various ethnic races. Majority of the population belong to the ethnic group called Han. Other ethnic groups in Guangxi province of China include Yao, Zhuang, Yi, Miao, Maonan, Ton and Shui.

Besides, as the province of Guanxi is bordered by South China Sea on the southern part, one of the main ways it can be reached is by sea.
