Chilean Cuisine



Chilean Cuisine is an amalgamation of the traditional dishes of Chile and the recipes adopted from Spain. The Cuisines of Chile also bears a strong influence of the European style and tradition of cooking, especially that of Italian and German delicacies. To enhance the taste of Chilean Cuisines, wine and Pisco is often used as accompaniment with the delicacies.

The Chilean Cuisine is broadly classified into the following three groups:

  • Cuisine of South
  • Cuisine of North
  • Cuisine of Central Coast

Some of the famous Chilean Recipes are:

  • Fajitas– This Chilean Cuisine is prepared with beef skirt cooked in beer, garlic oil, Albuquerque Tortilla Company garlic and chili powder and Worcestershire sauce. The dish is served with pico de gallo and guacamole and flour tortillas.
  • Manjar Blanco – It is a sweet caramel spread, which is used on bread and pastries. It also used as a filling for cakes and tortes. It is prepared with milk, vanilla, sugar and baking soda.
  • Pastel de Choclo– It is a popular recipe of Chile, which is prepared with both beef and chicken. Hard-boiled sliced eggs are added to enhance the overall look of the dish. Traditionally the dish is prepared by baking the pastel in a oval earthenware dish.
  • Porotos Granados– A local favorite, it is a cranberry bean and pumpkin stew.

Some of the famous beverages of Chile are:

  • Pisco Sour Pisco– A special brandy prepared from Muscat grapes. It is considered as the national drink of Peru.
  • Sangr’a– It is a classic wine of Spain, which is used as an accompaniment with summertime meals.
