Chile primarily has five national wide television channels operating from Santiago. The only state owned television station of Chile is Television Nacional (Channel 7). UCTV was originally run by the Catholic University of Santiago. The channel is now owned privately and is helped by the University in contributing to the cultural and educational programming. The cable television in Chile airs English news like the Voice of America and CNN International. The premium channels in Chile like the Canal Cine and HBO telecast English movies and programs with Spanish subtitles. The Sony Channel in Chile is also a very popular channel showing a variety of American programs. Telefonica Chile, the renowned telecommunication company has started telecasting internet television through Imagenio.
