Supreme Court of Chad was established again in 1988. Court of State security is the highest court of the country. It comprises of 8 justices, which includes both military officers and civilians. The president of Chad makes these appointments.
The reviewing of decisions of the lower courts is made in the Court of appeals located in N’Djamena. In 1984, a Court of justice was established. In this court cases, which includes fraudulent appropriation of public funds are heard.
In towns like Sarh, Abeche, N’Djamena and Moundou, Criminal Courts of Chad are convened. Whenever it is necessary the criminal judges travel to the other towns of the country. The 14 prefectures of Chad include a magistrate’s court. Minor criminal and civil cases are heard in this magistrate court. Islamic sharia courts were common in the north and east of Chad.
