Erhard Etzlaub



Erhard Etzlaub was not only an eminent map maker but also a physician, an astronomer and an expert instrument maker. Born during the mid 15th century in Germany, this multi talented man happens to be one of the distinguished cartographers of the world.

Erhard Etzlaub’s role as an instrument maker and geodesist helped him in making some very effective maps. In the beginning of the 16th century he produced the Romweg Map – one of the earliest road maps in Europe. The Roman pilgrims were greatly benefited by this map. He produced some more useful maps like the map of Nuremberg, Hauseck Map etc. Apart from cartography, he also excelled in astronomy. He breathed his last in the city of Nuremberg.
