Austria Population

Population in Austria and its history follow the common changes taking place in different spheres of the social and industrial lives of the country. Several other factors like historical and regional distinctions have equally contributed to the rising trend in the Population in Austria.

The catastrophes of both the World Wars led to the considerable movement of the Population in Austria. Witnessing the extensive disasters and devastation these Wars brought about, which were both intentional and mandatory, people started fleeing from the country to other foreign nations in search of mental peace and environmental stability. Meanwhile, the huge population from other parts of Europe who suffered severe destruction poured into the Austrian mainland in search of occupation. The post-World War scenario in Austria led to extensive industrialization, which was one of the main attractions why people crowded the country. This further boosted the demography of the country, resulting in a mixed culture.

The latest population in Austria is 9.12 million. The gradual increase in the present rate is also a result of the opening of Eastern Europe which had a great impact on the size and structure of the Austrian demography.

The population of the Austrian capital city in Vienna is around 1.9 million in the main city area. The total urban count when added to the population of the suburbs, comes to around 2.2 million, which is indeed alarming. The total number of people residing alone in Vienna constitutes a major section of the population in Austria. The reason is that most immigrants from eastern and central parts of Europe preferred to settle in this beautiful city in Austria.

Compared to the Austrian capital, the total population strength in other parts of the country does not go beyond 1 million. The second largest Austrian city, Graz houses 295,424 people, followed by Innsbruck with 124,579, Salzburg with 151,338, and Linz with 193,814 inhabitants. The rest of the Austrian cities comprise a population strength of fewer than 100,000 persons.

The population in Austria is rising fearfully. To give it a proper check, the Austrian government should take sincere initiatives and efforts to stop population influx from other foreign lands that comprise a major part of the country’s demography.
