Flag of Christmas Island

The national flag of Christmas Island features a blue/green slanting panel with a small constellation of four seven-pointed white stars and one tinier five-pointed white star on the blue segment. There is a golden ring in the middle holding the outline of the island in green, and a Golden Bosun Bird on the green segment.

The green and blue diagonal sections symbolize the flora of the island and sea. The golden ring in the heart of the ensign symbolizes the phosphate mines found in the region.

The flag of Christmas Island was unofficially adopted in 1986. It was made official on Australia Day, 2002 when Bill Taylor, the administrator of the territory, presented the flag to the Christmas Island Shire.

The Christmas Island flag is used both as a state and civil flag or ensign.
