Earlier the name of Gweru was Gwelo. Chitungwiza recently took-over the grade of third largest city from Gweru yet it is the main and central part of Midlands. Gweru in Zimbabwe is known for its industrial and agricultural production. It has an important place in the economy of Zimbabwe as majority of the products for export business are produced from Gweru.
As Gweru is so important as a city that is why it is connected to all the Zimbabwean cities through railways and airways. Gweru is an important junction and the commercial hub of the country.
The main cities of Zimbabwe with which Gweru is connected by railways and roadways are, Bulawayo, Harare, masvingo, Shurugwi, Zvishavane and Lowveld.
Apart from being one of the main commercial centers of Zimbabwe, Gweru is also famous among the tourists all around the world because of its beautiful environment and other attractions like, Military Museum, antelope Game Park, few archaeological centers that include the archaeological museum also and some Portuguese architectures as this was one of the main colonial areas of Portuguese. Tourists must view all these places while they are on Gweru sightseeing.
Gweru has the population of approximately 200,000. Most of the populations are the part of either industries or agriculture. The labor force is very powerful and that is Gweru is one of the fastest developing city of Zimbabwe.
