Transportation Inside Zaire



The roads are the most commonly used medium of transportation in Zaire. The basic information about the Zaire transport is necessary for the tourists visiting the country for the first time. This small country in the African continent is one of the developing countries of Africa. Before the petroleum industry was established here, the country had a poor financial infrastructure. As a result, the roads and transport system was not satisfactory. But along with the industrial development, the government concentrated on the improvement of communication system and started developing transportation inside Zaire.

The internal transport of Zaire is largely based on the roadways, airports, railways and the local ferry. Bus is the most popularly used public vehicle in Zaire. The bus services are more commonly used in the eastern part of the country. Train services are available from Lubumbashi to Ilebo and Kinshasa to Matadi.

Tourists can also hire luxury cars and taxis for traveling through the cities and regions of Zaire. The cars here are of right hand drive like in the USA and in France. There are a few airfields in Zaire. These airfields are located in Gbadolite, Gemena, Isiro, Goma, Kananga, Kindu, Kisangani, Mbandanka, Lubumbashi, Mbuji Mayi and Kinshasa. There are several ferry services in Zaire. These ferry services are between Goma and Bukavu, Kinshasa and Kisangani and Kaleme and Kulundu.

All these mediums of transport in Zaire connect the different parts of the country and improve the infrastructure of communication.
