Zaire Police ensures law and order and enforce law of the land. Local Police is posted in the various regions to support the local authorities. Huge number of unarmed and untrained youths are recruited at the local level who perform the responsibility of police. In 1993, they were estimated to be about 30,000. The police officers of the Democratic Republic of Congo are dedicated and sincere, who are consistently devoted to secure the interest of the nation.
In some local areas there were no local police as there was lack of fund to pay them salaries. The activities of the local police have no co ordination with the national police.
The Local and regional authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo had the the power to arrest and impose fines. But in a number of cases these powers are exercised with the help of local police. Zaire Police impartially and firmly enforces law of the land without any fear or favor.
