The Agricultural Industry of Zaire revolves around the forestry, agricultural crops and commercial fishing. More than half of the land area in Zaire is covered with dense tropical vegetation, rich in flora and fauna. The annual production of Cassava is around 18.2 million tons annually. Like Cassava, corn is also grown throughout the country, while rice is grown along the river basins of Congo. Growing agricultural crops along the fertile river basin of Congo is one of the prime agricultural industries in Zaire.
Fishing in Zaire
The large rivers and the beautiful lakes of Zaire are great spots allowing commercial fishing. Commercial fishing in Zaire produces around 100,00 tons of fish annually. However, inland fishing in Zaire cannot meet the demand. Substantial imports are made from South Africa and Zimbabwe. Marine fishing is controlled by the government.
Forestry of Zaire
The dense and humid tropical forests in Zaire are rich in flora and fauna. These forests are the main source of fuel wood for the people of Zaire. Potatoes and yams are also grown in the forest areas. Livestock breeding is also done in the grasslands located in the borders of these forests.
