Earlier,
Yemen Schools were limited to religious institutions where teaching and learning of Koran was necessary. After the north and south Yemen got united in the year 1970, there was a considerable change in the system of education. It comprised of basic and secondary education of 9 and 3 years respectively. A number of private institutions were established. The children received the Intermediate School Certificate and General Secondary Education Certificate after clearing their final school exams.

Yemen schools, Sanaa International School is a very reputed one. It was established in the year 1971. The school covers an area of 34 acres. The school intends to provide education to all Yemeni children who are willing to pursue education in their home land. The children are provided with a soccer field, softball and a large playground. The various subjects taught in the school are English, cultural studies, mathematics, science, physical education music and art. Besides, Arabic and French are also a part of the curriculum.
