The Virginia Tech University is the second most prestigious university in the Commonwealth after the University of Virginia and also holds significance in the education scenario of the state for containing the largest number of full-time students in the state. The university was founded in the year 1872 and started off under the name of Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. With time, the college has evolved to transform into a full-time university which has the highest facility required for in-depth research. Virginia Tech is located in the city of Blacksburg in Virginia and has almost 8 graduate colleges and schools under its jurisdiction. Spread across a sprawling campus area of 2600 acres, the university owns 100 buildings and presently holds the 56th spot on the list of top US universities. The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, as Virginia Tech is also sometimes called, has consistently maintained its mission of breaking new grounds in technology although the university also lays equal importance on learning. The Virginia Tech University is probably the best university wherein US students receive the opportunity of growing as far as both knowledge and research is concerned. It is one of the most respected public universities of the US.
