Somalia politics is one of the most disturbed and unorganized ones in the world, the chief reason behind the economic plight of the country. In the recent political news of Somalia, it is civil war and strifes that hogs the lime light. Ever since the overthrow of Siad Barre in 1886, there has been continuous revolts and bloodshed in most parts of Somalia. It is to be remembered that in Somalia, clans have always been more important in administering the Somalis government. Hence, due to the lack of a formal government that can actually take the responsibility of the whole nation, power is distributed among the various groups. Naturally, fight for power, partiality and favoritism has led to much corruption and dissatisfaction among the general public.
THE SOMALIA POLITICS IN THE TIME OF SIAD BARRE
Siad Barre: Siad Barre had ruled Somalia for a long 21 years since military coup had brought him to power. Though Barre himself followed the clan system administration, he barred other clans and parties from gaining national recognition. His logic was that clans and parties promoted feelings of hostilities among fellow Somalis. His logic was however, not sound and clear as he himself encouraged his own clan members to gain important offices in the Somalia administration.
