Somalia Religion is mainly Muslim religion. Due to the Muslim rule in Somalia for a long period of time, the Somalia culture was highly influenced by the Islamic culture. Thus Islam made its way as the Religion of Somalis. Islam has got two divisions or groups Siya and Sunni. Somalis are mostly Sunni Muslims.
During the 9th and 10th centuries Sufi religion influenced the Somalis quite a bit. Thus by the 13th and 14th centuries Sufism started playing an important role in the Somalia Culture. The prominence of Sufism made it all the more popular. The Salihiyah, the Qadiriyah, the Ahmadiyah-Idisiyah and Rifaiyah, an offshoot of Qadiriyah represented Sufi religion in Somalia. Among these Qadiriyah ws the oldest.
Somalia Religion never had any interference in the political matters. The dominance of religion began to decline in the 1950s and 1960s, as the educational and legal responsibilities were partially shifted to the secular authorities. However after the revolution in 1969 and with the introduction of the scientific socialism, the importance of the religious leaders decreased quite a bit.
The present government rules are a little contradictory to the Islamic perception. Still, Islam continues to hold its importance and place in the Somalia Religion.
