Time in Slovakia

The time in Slovakia depends on the geographical location of the country. it is a landlocked country situated in central Europe. To its north west lies Czech Republic. Poland lies to its north, Ukraine to its east, Hungary to its south and Austria to its South west.

Slovakia falls under the central European Time Zone. The central European Time (CET) is one hour in advance of the Greenwich Mean Time. Therefore time in Slovakia will be GMT+1. As in most European countries in Slovakia too people follow summer time (daylight-Saving). This is 2 hours before Greenwich Mean Time. Therefore summer time in Slovakia is GMT+2. Once summer is over, the time of Slovakia moves back by one hour. Thus once again it becomes GMT+1.

The Daylight Saving Time (DST) of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia began on March 25, 2007 at 2 AM (local standard time) and will end on October 28, 2007 at 3 AM (local daylight time). The Slovakia time is determined by the latitude and longitude of Slovakia. The southern limit is 47° 43' N latitude. The 49° 38' N latitude forms its northern limit. The eastern limit is the 22° 34' e longitude and the western limit is 18° 50' E longitude. The geographical placement of Slovakia in the world brings it under the Central European Time Zone which in turn is responsible for the time in Slovakia which is GMT+1.

Slovakia time thus can be calculated by adding an hour to the Greenwich Mean Time.
