San Marino Family is an integral part of the small European country. Though the country is small, it has immense integrity and there is perfect harmony among the people. The social structure in San Marino has enhanced the importance of a family in San Marino. Initially, the country had big joint families, but with time, the concept has changed a great deal. Several nuclear families were formed from one big joint family. But the unity and harmony is still evident in most of the families. The extended family system also crumbled after the Second World War.
San Marino Family structure has changed due to several factors. Changing from an agrarian to an industrial economy also made several nuclear families in San Marino. The percentage of marriages in the country is quite high, while the percentage of divorce is exceptionally low.
Unlike many countries of the world, San Marino families are very closely knit. Older family members mostly live with their younger relatives. Old people are taken good care of in their families. Majority of the children live with their parents, even when they reach adulthood. After attaining higher education or getting a job, many children go out of their joint families and start nuclear families. The feeling of kinship and brotherhood can be felt in every house of San Marino.
