There are many sources of news in Rwanda. Radio Rwanda is one such reliable source for news in Rwanda. There are many news bulletins on radio Rwanda along with programs of entertainment.
Radio Rwanda is owned by ORINFOR Group, a leader in mass media in Rwanda. Radio Rwanda covers news of political, social, economical issues. The news is broadcast in three or four languages of Rwanda like English, French, Kinyarwanda and Kiswahili. The news on radio Rwanda can be heard in other neighboring countries also. Moreover it can be accessed from Western countries and part of Saudi Arabia.
On radio Rwanda many cultural and musical programs are also broadcast. These programs are broadcast in Rwanda languages that are French, English and Kenyarwanda. Some programs broadcast are of entertainment also. Radio Rwanda spreads awareness about local problems and issues also from time to time.
Many of the Rwanda people are not literate so radio was used as a medium for government officials to convey their messages or speeches to public but later radio was used for wrong reasons. During the period of brutal genocide radio was used as the strongest medium to incite Hutu people to kill Tutsi tribes. Surprisingly action was not taken against the authorities of radio to stop these broadcasts.
