Human rights are constantly violated in
Rwanda. This poor country in Africa now have become a subject of concern to the
human rights organizations all over the world, particularly after the genocide in 1994. The
Human Rights Watch made a report on 2004 that reflected the miserable condition of the local people. But apart from them, there are many other NGOs working on the violation of
human rights in Rwanda. These reports show how reluctant the government is to secure the rights of the citizen.
In
Rwanda, there are both local and international NGOs working together for the betterment of the local people. These NGOs are doing their best to secure the rights of the citizen. They are also working for the physically handicapped people and the rehabilitation of the refugees. The NGOs working in
Rwanda are:
- Action de Developpement des Hautes Altitudes de Mukura
- Christoffel Blinden Mission
- ACDI VOCA
- Norwegian Church Aid
- Institut Africain pour le Developpement Economique et Social , Formation Rwanda
- Action Chretienne pour le Developpement Communautaire au Rwanda.
- Association pour Assistance aux Personnes defavorisees
Expect these few NGOs, there are a plenty of other organizations taking care of the welfare of common people in
Rwanda. Most of them are working for the orphans who lost their parents in the 1994 genocide. The Government, however, is not much concerned about securing the
human rights. In fact there are examples where the basic rights are violated by Government itself. Deaths in police custody have become a common problem now. In fact,
human rights activists too are not safe in
Rwanda. The 19 years imprisonment of a well known human rights activist Francois-Xavier Byuma by the people's court shows how frequently human rights are violated in Rwanda. To get more information on
