Romania People



The population of Romania exceeded 20 million at the inception of 21st century. The current population of the country figures as 22,303,552.The Romanians form the greatest majority of the population constituting 89.5% of the Romania people. The Hungarians represent 6.6% of the population. The Romas (2.5%), the Ukrainians (0.3%), the Russians (0.2%),the Turkish (0.2%), the Germans (0.3%), and the others (0.4%) exist in smaller numbers.

Romanian language is the chief communicative medium among the Romania people. It is an Eastern Romance language which primarily has its roots in Latin. The Romanian language has also been subjected to Spanish, Italian, Hungarian,German and Turkish influences. The Romania people take immense pride in their Latin heritage which differentiates them from the Hungarian and Slav who are its immediate neighbors. German and Hungarian are also used widely by the Romania people.

There is no strictly laid down state religion in Romania. Majority of the Romania people (86.8%) follow the Orthodox Church in Romania. 4.7% of the people of Romania are Roman Catholics and 7.5% are Protestants. Islam and Unitarians are practiced by a minority. There is also a small Jewish community.

The Romania people has a rich and vibrant inheritance of cultural heritage. Ceramics,embroidery of costumes,wood carving,weaving and household decorations,and also dance and folk music are popular traditional art forms in Romania. In the contemporary age, theater and poetry has profound significance in the life of the Romania people.
