Paraguay sports include a large number of sports like soccer, basketball, tennis, chess, etc. Zenon Franco Ocampos is a well known chess player of Paraguay. National basketball team in Paraguay is represented at the international level by the Paraguayan Basketball Federation. Two of the most memorable achievements made by the basketball team of Paraguay were achieving the second place in the 1955 and 1960 South American Basketball Championship.
Some of the notable tennis players of Paraguay are Rossana de los Rios, Victor Pecci, Hugo Chapacu, Francisco Gonzalez and so on. Paraguay took part in the Davis Cup for the first time in the year of 1931. The Paraguay Davis Cup team is under the governance of Asociacion Paraguya de Tenis.
The Paraguay national football team is run by Asociacion Paraguaya de Futbol. They emerged triumphant in the Copa America tournaments held in 1953 and 1979. In the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, they won a silver medal in the final. Some of the football players of Paraguay are Dionisio Arce, Arsenio Erico, Carlos Morales Santos, Juan Vicente Lezcano and many more.
Two very important sports festival held in Paraguay are the South American Basketball Championship 1949 and Copa America 1999. South American Basketball Championship 1949 took place at Asuncion.
