The Nigerian sportspeople have displayed their sportsmanship in the international sports circuit. The Nigerian sportspeople have actively participated in the Summer Olympic Games in the true spirit since 1964 with the exception for 1976 and 1980. Though the Nigerian sportspeople could not put up an outstanding performance in the Olympic Games, their sportsmanship has always been praised. In the 1972 Summer Olympics, the boxer Issaka Daborg created a sensation in the international sports arena. He bagged the bronze medal for Niger in the light welterweight boxing.

There is no sex discrimination among the Nigerian sportspeople in the modern generation. Since 2000 Olympic Games, the Niger women athletes have been participating in the true spirit. Few of the women Nigerian sportspeople include Haissa Ali Garba, Balkissa Ouhoumoudou, Salamtou Hassane. These sports persons have earned their glory in sports like Women's 400 meters race, swimming.

The promising sportsman from Niger who has bagged international recognition in the recent times is Abdou Alassane Dji Bo. He is a judo player who won the third position in half lightweight (66 kg) in 2004 and 2006 African Judo Championships. In the 2005 African Judo Championships he even bettered as the silver winner in the same category.

Football is a popular sport in Niger. And there are numbers of Nigerian sportspeople like Ismael Alassane, Kassaly Daouda who have held the head of Niger National Football team high.
