Niger Government runs on the basis of Republican norms, with President as the constitutional head and Prime Minister as the real head. They constitute the two main pillars of the

Government in the Republic of Niger elects the President for a term of five years by means of universal adult suffrage, which involves secret, equal and independent voting. However, there always exists a possibility for the same President to get re-elected to a second term in his office. The Niger President as the Head of the State, selects the Prime Minister from a three candidates list, chosen by majority votes in the election and appoints him.
As the Head of the Government of Niger, the Prime Minister directs, arranges and synchronizes all actions on governmental levels. The legislative powers of Niger rest solely with the National Assembly, which is constituted for tenure of five years. Headed by the President, it is composed of 83 Deputies elected in the same manner as the President. However, it is essential for every political party to gain a minimum 5 percent of the votes for attaining seats in the legislature.
The judicial system of Niger has full political autonomy awarded by the Constitution. It is made up of four higher courts of law - the Supreme Court, the High Court of Justice, Constitutional Court and the Court of Appeals. These four courts of law form the main pillars of the legal entity of the country. They are actually responsible in maintaining peace as well as law and order within the Republic of Niger.
