Nacala coast is located on the northern coast of Mozambique and according to the 1997 census report it has a population of around 164,309. It is said to be the deepest natural port on the east coast of Africa and serves as the terminal for the Nacala Railway. This railway is basically a rail link to the landlocked Malawi. Mozambique Island is on the Southern part of Nacala and had once been the capital of Mozambique. Presently it is a World Heritage site.
The Nacala Development Corridor, on the other hand, is popularly known as the "Corredor de Desenvolvimento do Norte", CDN". This area extends westward from Nacala to Malawi. Nacala is said to be the terminal of the Nacala Railway and connects to the Central East African Railway of Malawi. This town has gained popularity for its beaches.
Nacala coast is basically a tropical area with deserted white beaches and pristine tropical waters, but it has still remained undiscovered by the visitors. There are some hotels and lodgings in the town of Nacala and on Mozambique Island. Besides this, Nacala Coast Area offers organized tourist facilities. The travelers mainly flock here to watch the fine architecture.
Mozambique Island
Mozambique Island lies on the northern part of Mozambique and is considered to be a major tourist hub. The island is not very big in size but it has series of attractions to offer to its visitors. In the Northern part of this majestic Mozambican island several old historical buildings are found.
