Mozambique Flag

The Mozambique Flag has earned the recognition as the only national flag in the world with the image of a modern rifle like an AK-47. The Mozambique flag was adopted officially on 1st May in the year of 1983. The Mozambique Flag carries five colors -green, black, yellow, white and red. Each of these colors in the Mozambique Flag has an individual significance. Green symbolizes the fertile land of the African nation Mozambique. The Mozambique citizens carry a long history of the struggle for independence and this struggle is reflected in the red color of the Mozambique Flag. Mozambique is renowned for the availability of the mineral resources and the yellow color of the nation's flag symbolizes the country's mineral resources. Though the Mozambique Flag carries the image of an AK-47, it does not reflect any terror. That Mozambique believes in the peace treaty is reflected in the white color of the national flag of Mozambique. The black color represents the continent of Africa to which it belongs.

The official national Mozambique flag carries the emblem of the yellow star, book, hoe and AK-47 on a red triangle. Each of these emblems has respective significance. The yellow star symbolizes the solidarity of the Mozambique people and the socialistic beliefs of Mozambique. The book symbolizes the education while the hoe reflects the image of peasants and agriculture. The unique emblem of AK-47 reflects the determination of Mozambique to protect its freedom.

The present Mozambique Flag is based on the design of the Mozambican Liberation Front (FRELIMO) flag. The FRELIMO flag was in use for a short period after Mozambique's independence from Portugal. The difference between the official Mozambique Flag and the FRELIMO flag lies in the official emblem. The FRELIMO flag lacked the emblem.
