The history of Moldova deals with the historical facts of two regions Bessarabia and Transnistria which have united to become a country. Situated in between the Prut and Nistru rivers, Bessarabia comprises the eastern portion of the country Moldova. Transnistria, on the eastern bank of the River Nistru is a Romanian name for the land. The Romanians form the majority of the population of these two regions.

The history of Moldova was also influenced by the foreigners who visited this place. The Greek colonists, Russian officials, Turks and Tatars, German and Bulgarian colonists, soldiers of the Nazi Germany, Romanian nationalists have left impact on the history of Moldova.

The history of Moldova informs us, that this nation was initially a part of the country Romania. At the end of the Second World War, Moldova was included in the Soviet Union. Though it is an independent nation, the Russians still rule the country. The Ukrainians and the Russians have formed an independent republic known as the "Tranistria Republic".
