Mauritius Lawn Tennis Association is the governing body of Tennis in Mauritius. Among the Mauritius sports, tennis is widely enjoyed by the inhabitants of the island. Tennis in Mauritius occupies a very important place so far as Mauritius Sports is concerned and was introduced in Mauritius by the British in 1893.
Mauritius Lawn Tennis Association was founded in the year 1910, but officially received its affiliation on 3rd April, 1991. The name of the association was changed from Mauritius Lawn Tennis Association to Mauritius Tennis Federation on 29th of March, 2001. Since then it has been acting as the sole body vested with all the important responsibilities to promote the game in Mauritius. During the Annual General Meeting of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Holland of 8th July, 1999, Mauritius Tennis Federation became a full member of ITF.
Mauritius participated in the Davis Cup for the first time in 2000. Since then, Mauritius proved its worth in a number of important tennis events. Mauritius also participated in the Fed Cup after a gap of eight years. All kinds of important assistance are provided to the budding and professional tennis players irrespective of their caste, creed and gender. Some of the Mauritian tennis players of worldwide fame are Alexandre Daruty, Kamil Patel, Marine Giraud, Astrid Tixier and Bruno Gorayah. These players have given a new height to the popularity of tennis in Mauritius.
