Founded in 1965, the
University of Mauritius (UOM) is one of the most progressive and internationally acclaimed universities of the world. Ever since its inception, the University of Mauritius has been working towards maintaining the standard and quality of knowledge imparted to all learners, be they natives or foreigners.
Faculties in the University of Mauritius
The University of Mauritius comprises five faculties, namely:
- Faculty of Social Studies and Humanities (FSSH): Under-graduate and post-graduate programs are offered in subjects like languages (English, Hindi and French), history, economics, library studies, statistics, communication studies, sociology and social work. Higher degrees are also awarded to research scholars. Certificate and diploma courses are also arranged by the faculty.
- Faculty of Science (FOS): Under-graduate and post-graduate courses are offered in subjects like chemistry, biological sciences, mathematics, physics, medicines and health sciences. The faculty also strives to solve scientific problems by promoting extensive research works on grass root levels.
- Faculty of Law and Management (FLM): Courses in the under-graduate and post-graduate levels are offered to native and foreign students in the fields of law, accountancy, managements and business studies. Diploma courses are also supported by the faculty in management studies.
- Faculty of Agriculture (FAO): offers both under-graduate and post-graduate programs, under the guidance of renowned academicians and technical experts in this field. The under-graduate programs include diploma courses as well.
- Faculty of Engineering (FOE): Under-graduate and post-graduate programs are offered in a number of departments of the faculty including civil, electrical, electronic, computer and mechanical engineering and so on. Supervised by technicians and academicians in this field, this faculty strives to impart training to future engineers and technicians. It also facilitates module registration over the net.
University of Mauritius Research Facilities
The Consultancy and Contract Research Center (CCRC) founded in 1998 August acts as the coordinator of all contractual research projects and consultancies occurring between the University and the governmental and industrial levels of Mauritius. In this respect, it also receives supports from the research assistances already engaged in current projects. The state-of-the-art conditions of the laboratories and modern research equipments make research-oriented activities easy and smooth for the scholars. Moreover, the association of the University with different research organizations of international fame and repute encourages exchange of thoughts and idea on scholarly levels.
University of Mauritius library
The library in the University of Mauritius is founded with the aim of providing the students with books of different disciplines. It also strives to satisfy the information requirements of different categories of people, through efficient facilities and services. Thus the students, full and part-time academicians, technical persons, native and foreign research scholars derive library facilities like borrowing books, xeroxing study materials, enjoining the in-house loan facility for non-stock books, access to the database stored either online on in CD ROM and make use of the audio-visual facilities for study and research works.
