The Malta Parliament comprises of the president, speaker, deputy speaker, ministers and parliamentary secretaries and is unicameral in nature. The Parliament of Malta mainly consists of two branches executive and legislature. The legislative wing of the Malta Parliament consists of sixty five seats and the members for these seats are selected through popular votes. Each elected members is supposed to serve the country for a time span of five years. The last election was held in the year 2003, 12th April and the next is scheduled in August 2008.
The executive branch of the Malta Parliament consists of the prime minister and the president. The president and the prime minister of Malta are elected through popular votes. The House of Representatives elect the president and he is supposed to serve the country for a time span of five years. The cabinet members of the Malta parliament are selected by the president. While electing the members, the president takes advice from the prime minister.
Onor Anton Tabone is the speaker and Onor Carmelo Abela is the deputy speaker of the Malta parliament. The prime minister of the nation is also the finance minister of the country. The parliamentary secretaries of the Malta parliament are Dr. Tony Abela (Office of Prime Minister), Tonio Fenech (Ministry for Finance), Dr. Tonio Borg (Minister fir Home affairs and Justice) and many more.
The members of the Nationalist Party in Malta parliament are Agius David, Agius Francis, Arrigo Robert Asciak Michael, Azzopardi Frederick and many more. The members of the opposition party are Abela Joseph, Agius Chris, Bartolo Evarist Brincat Joseph and others.
The standing committee of the Malta parliament has various sections like public accounts, foreign and European affairs, and consideration of bills, social affairs, development planning and many more. The chairperson of the development planning is George Pullicino, and that for social affairs is Clyde Pulli.
