Malta election takes place once in five years. The last
election in Malta was held in the year 2004, on the 29th March.
The president and the prime minister of Malta are elected through popular votes. The House of Representatives elect the president and he is supposed to serve the country for a time span of five years. The same candidate can hold the presidential office twice. At present Edward Fenech Adami is the President as well as the chief of Malta. The cabinet members of the Malta parliament are selected by the president. While electing the members, the president seeks advice from the Prime Minister.
The party winning the majority votes forms the government of Malta. The leader of that party is elected as the prime minister of the nation by the president. Lawrence Gonzi has been ruling the nation from the year 2004 as the Prime Minister. The parliament of Malta consists of a total of sixty five seats and the members for these seats are elected through popular votes.
These members serve the country for a long time of five years. In the legislative branch, the election was last held in the year 2003, 12th April and it will be held again in the month of August 2008. The next Presidential
election in Malta is supposed to take place in the year 2009. The last election results of Malta were as:
