Facts About Mali



Facts about Mali are essential for travelers who plan to visit the country for the first time or are interested to know more about the country. Located in the western part of Africa, Mali is mostly a desert country. The northern part of the country is covered by vast stretches of sand and the southern part mostly features Savanna Grasslands. Broken hills dominate the north eastern part of the country.

Mali Climate

The climate of Mali varies from sub tropical to arid. The temperature is hot and dry during the months of February to June. During the months of June to November heavy rain occurs in the area and the climate becomes humid. There is a decrease in the temperature in the months of November to June.

Mali History

The history of Mali is a witness to many civilizations which have settled in the region. The importance of the country was decreased with the rise of the Great Empire of Songhai. The Songhai Empire came to an end and got fragmented into small divisions. Mali was again conquered by France in 1896. It was only in the year 1960 that the country got freedom.

Mali Government

In Mali the President plays the important role of the chief of state and is the commander of chief of the army. The President is elected for a term of five years. The President can serve for two terms and it is the President who has the responsibility of appointing the Prime Minister.
