Schools in Mali are increasing every year. The government has taken the initiative of opening many primary and secondary schools in Mali. It is also one of the main responsibilities of the government to encourage the literacy level of the country.
There are some public schools in the Yangasso District of Mali. Earlier there was a shortage of teachers in schools, since most people of Mali were farmers and the literacy level was extremely low. As a result, efficient and educated teachers were hard to find. Then the local government took the responsibility of opening some educational institutions in Mali.
Les Petits Saints situated in Boulkassoumbougou-Kouloublèni area is a very famous school. The school administration is very good. The main aim of the school is to train the students to become successful individuals. The school also offers classes in painting, pottery, observation sciences and English language. Les Petits Saints School is one of the premier institutions of Mali where computer science classes have been started. The school has computer laboratories and the children enjoy learning computers.
The number of primary schools in Mali in the year 1998 was 2,511 and about 43% of children were admitted to these schools. As per the survey reports, the level of female education however, was comparatively lower than that of the male population.
One of the NGOs in the country, School Net Africa, has taken the initiative to offer courses on information technology in the schools of Mali.
