Malawi- Land and People presents an idea of the socio-geographic conditions that are found to exist in Malawi. Malawi composed of a narrow strip has around 20% of its land area formed of Lake Nyasa. Besides, topographically Malawi also has certain parts that are made up of plateau having an elevation of around 2500 to 4500 feet. Areas in the Northern and Southern parts have a comparatively higher elevation.
Malawi- Land and People study reveals that a majority of the people residing in Malawi are Bantu- speakers with 90% rural population. Of the many groups present in Malawi the Ngoni, Tumbuka, Yao, Tonga, Nguru, are some of the principal sub groups.
As far as the religious belief of the people is concerned, around 75% of the Malawi people are Christians and 20% are Muslims. Besides these faiths, traditional religious beliefs are also found to be present in the Malawi society. The languages most widely used by the Malawi people include English and Chichewa.
