The Macedonia Society and Culture is the result of the development of the Southern Slavish group of people. The settlement of the Slavs in this region dates back to times much before the medieval period. Formerly, in the ancient times, the Macedonian people were associated with the Greek culture. The Southern Slavs had penetrated into the Balkan region and this is the reason why the Balkan influence is prominent to this day in all aspects of the national culture of Macedonia.
The beginning of the Macedonian culture was in the development in their language, followed by the church literature from times before the middle ages. The Macedonian language can written in Roman letters as well as in Cyrilic code. The later was introduced in the 9th century and the language has since then undergone significant development.
Religion is an indispensable part of any culture in the world. In Macedonia, there are more than forty faiths, though the most important of the Macedonia religions are the Christian Orthodox church, the Roman catholic church and the protestant Christianity. Macedonia is a secular state and there are few incidents of violence on grounds of faith and religion.
An important part of the contemporary Macedonia Culture is development of folklore music, dance, literature, theater and films. To promote the indigenous talent and further strengthen the cultural heritage, several cultural festivals and fairs are held. Many of them have gained International importance.
