Luxembourgish is the official language of Luxembourg. The two administrative languages at Luxembourg are French and German. For day to day communication, language of Luxembourg is Luxembourgish.
The newspapers, that are published in the Grand Duchy, are mainly printed in the German language. However, things like advertisements, cultural articles and social announcements are done in French language in Luxembourg. Luxembourgish language is taught from the school level. It is also taught in the language schools of Luxembourg. French is taught from the second year of the primary section at the school level.
The Parliamentary documents like the bills, court proceedings and other judicial and administrative matters are held and written in the French language. However the synoptic accounts of parliamentary debates are published in the German language. Luxembourgish is used in the political speeches and any other public occasions. Some part of the Luxembourg population also speaks in Spanish and Portuguese language as there are immigrants from these places. Franco-German bilingualism is an important part of the social structure of Luxembourg. It is thus evident that the two cultures of France and Germany meet at Luxembourg.
Thus, it can be said that the various languages of Luxembourg give an exposure to a number of cultures to the people of the place.
