Lithuania Sports became renowned after 1990 as in this year the Lithuanian government has set up the physical education and sports department to enhance the sportsmanship of the Lithuanians. The development in Lithuanian sports has been remarkable in very short time as the country established membership with various international bodies. The sports administration system has been re-constructed and the Lithuanian sportsmen are given the rights to participate in the Olympic games,World Championships as well as the Paraolympic games.
Presently Lithuania has 78 Olympics and Non-Olympic sports federations and they are united by the Sports Federation Union of Lithuania. Lithuania has above 800 sports club and it is estimated that more than 52,000 people of all age group attend sports club regularly. Lithuania houses 50 stadiums, 1187 gymnasiums, 141 tennis courts, 57 swimming pools and 8 centres for track and field athletics.
Common sports in Lithuania includes basketball, football,cycling and athletics. Other Lithuania sports are Orienteering, Alpine Skiing and Races. The fast paced development of Lithuania sports in this short span seems spectacular and the sports future of the country seems promising in the future.
