Radviliskis



Radviliskis is the administrative hub of the district of Radviliskis district. It is located in the south eastern part of the Siauliai County. Radviliskis was established towards the end of the 15th century. The name of the Radvilikis town featured for the first time in 1567. It was a record of the tax payers of the cities in a book on state economics. It was written by M. Downar-Zapolsky. The city is said to have derived its name from the family name of the Radvilos. The family is said to be the rulers of the city for a long period of time, from 1546-1764. The town has a set of three symbols. These include bulrushes, black sparrows and and railing. The coat of arms of the city depicts a rising horse emitting light. The horse stands for motion, communication, development of the city. The light that is emitted by the horse is symbolic of the progress of the city. Radviliskis has been, for quite some time, an important railway terminal. Its favorable location and the developed transportation system connects it other regions like Minsk, Moscow, Ryga, Warszawa and Kalinigrad. Over the years Radviliskis has exhibited tremendous growth in all aspects, be it health, ecology, security, trade and tourism.
