Kenya Flora

Kenya is a land with a wide range of flora. Kenya flora consists of Giant Ericas, Helichrysum, and Lobelia available at higher altitudes which inspire human awe. The drought resistant Acacia shrubs and the amazing coral reef add to the beauty of Kenya flora.

Varied Kenya flora and their location:

The forests in Kenya contribute especially to varied Kenya flora. These forests can be divided into different categories as coastal forest region, dry zone forest region, mountain forest region and the western rain forest region. Acacia is the most popular plant of Kenya as it matches itself well with its prevalent surroundings. It has more than forty species mostly found in Masai Mara area. The Baobabs are equally popular in the lowlands. It is a very beautiful tree which spreads out its branches to give the feeling of a giant resting in the wilderness.

The Mountain forest region is available in higher altitudes adding to the beauty of Kenya Flora. The specialties of this region are the ever green and hardwood trees such as Pinyon and Ziricote which help in the manufacture of furniture and help to boost the Kenyan economy. The amazing fact is that some of them take a very long time to grow may be a hundred or two hundred years at a stretch. These trees are available in watershed areas at elevations over thousand feet in the mountains.

While going up in the rain forest regions an array of diverse flora can be witnessed such as bamboo, ciders and junipers but the most beautiful are the shiny orchids and the beautifully flowered creepers. Even higher elevations present the gladioli and the heather trees. The coastal areas are ruled mainly by the mangroves which are supported by the salty water. The dry equatorial region supports sisals. Citrus trees, coffee and tea which contribute to the Kenya flora are the gifts of agriculture.
