Kenyan Tea is considered to be the national drink of this east African country. Kenyan tea is not only popular within the country but it has a good international reputation. It might be the reason behind tea being one of the most important exported products of Kenya. Tea of Kenya has all the virtues ranging from fragrance to flavor, from color to brightness. Kenyan tea is considered in the country and also abroad as one most healthy beverage in the planet. Most of the tea produced in Kenya falls within the CTC grade. CTC grade are given to the teas which are processed through the ‘cut, tear and curl’ method.
The climatic condition of Kenya is perfect for the production of tea. The amount of land used in Kenya for the cultivation of this cash crop is about 110,000hectares. The rift valleys of Kenya are the main areas where tea is produced. The low temperature and the adequate rainfall is the reason why the crop grows here. The numbers of small producers of tea are more than the large tea estate holders. The small producers work under the supervision of Kenya Tea Development Authority who takes care of the entire marketing procedure. Kenya does not produce any green tea and the production is limited just to Black tea. The farmers are all well trained and the entire process is very organized. The tea plants in Kenya are plucked after 17 days all round the year. Thess might be the reasons behind the worldwide fame of the Kenyan tea.
