Milan Baros

One of the celebrated football legends, hailing from the Czech Republic, Milan Baros has made a significant mark in international football. Born on 28th October 1981 in Vigantice, in erstwhile Czechoslovakia, Baros is a striker who plays for Lyon. His experience knows no bounds and is evinced by his former days when he played for Aston Villa, FC Banik Ostrava as well as Liverpool. In fact, Baros's spectacular form when he was playing for the FC Baník Ostrava has earned him the nom de plume, Ostrava's Maradona.

The career highlights of Milan Baros record that the indefatigable player has made 52 international appearances, scored 30 highly commendable goals and maintains an exemplary international strike rate in club football, yet to be paralleled by any of his contemporaries. Baros first ever path breaking achievement in international football occurred during the 2004 European Football Championship, where he was the first goal scorer. This crucial goal eventually earned the Czech Republic their phenomenal 2-1 victory against Latvia. An equalizer against the Netherlands and another match winning goal against the Germans made Baros, one of the two elite players to score a goal in each of the group's league matches. Baros's two additional goals in the same tournament's nail biting quarterfinals against Denmark earned him the coveted and prestigious Golden Boot Award.

However, a nagging knee injury prevented Baros from making an appearance in the 2006 World Cup.
