Czech Film Industry passed through several eventful and interesting periods. The cinematic history of Czech Republic states that Bohemia was the place where the first film was pictured in the year 1896. Following the trend of film-making directors like Josef Rovenský and Gustav Machatý made two films namely River and Extasy both of which received a global acclamation.
In the year 1933 Barrandov studios came into existence in Czech Republic which provided a major boost to the Czech – Arts & Entertainment industry. With a proper training from the film and television school of the academy of performing arts, some of the directors changed the entire cinema scenario of Czech Republic in 1960s. Termed as the golden period of cinema, the year of 1960 and its following years saw the evolution of such directors as Jirí Menzel, Miloš Forman, Ivan Passer, Ján Kadár, Jan Nemec, Elmar Klos, Vera Chytilová and Vojtech Jasný.
The next stage of Czech cinema passed through the phase of post-communist times when the place was flooded with foreign film-making companies. A huge number of production houses started to emerge in Czech Republic in the 1990s that in the coming years made a thriving movie industry in the place. David Ondrícek, Jan Hrebejk, Petr Zelenka, Jan Sverák and Saša Gedeon are some of the notable directors who made a creative niche in the film industry of Czech Republic in 1990s.
