The output of barley outstripped the domestic demands as a result of which the excess production was exported. Production of wheat catered to about two-thirds of the domestic necessities. 59,913 tons was the aggregate output of cereal during the year 1975. 111,876 tons was the aggregate output of cereal in the year 1987.
The most gainful farm product in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus included grapes, lemons and oranges. By the end of 1980 citrus fruits were the significant crops for export.
Carobs and olives are the crucial tree crops of Cyprus which grow occasionally on the slopes of mountains and hillsides. The orchards of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus grew 1.5 million olive trees. The seeds of Carob trees are chiefly used for feeding cattle. Maximum seeds of Carob tress were exported to Britain. Plums, figs, apples, apricots, etc. are the deciduous tree crops which were found in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
