Archeology in Cyprus


Archeology in Cyprus includes some of the most interesting sites like:

Souskiou-Vathyrkakas: Located behind the Temple of Aphrodite, this prehistoric site is the sole cemetery of Chalcolithic period that has been discovered in Cyprus. 70 tombs have been excavated in this archeological site.

Neolithic Sites: It is one of the most important pre-historic sites of Cyprus. It is also known as aceramic Neolithic because ceramic technology was unknown to this island at that point of time. The Khirokitia site in this place is still uncovered.

The Agia Varvara-Almyras: This is the site of the ancient copper production of this country. It reveals the ancient cultural heritage of Cyprus. It will enable you to see the traditional villages of Alambra.

Athienou Archaeological Project: In this project emphasis is given on the Athieno Malloura as well as the surrounding valley. It is quite interesting to explore this site which reflects the influences of the Roman, Archaic, Byzantine, Classical, Hellenistic, Frankish, Ottoman and Venetian period in the history of Cyprus.

The Medieval Castle at Limassol, Temple of Apollo, Curium, the Greco-Roman Theater, Odeon Paphos, Mosaic Floor, Curium, Hala Sultan Tekesi, Leda and the Swan Mosaic, Famagusta Gate, Kolossi Castle, Basilica Curium, Ancient Amathus are some of the interesting archeological sites of Cyprus.
