Schools in Burkina Faso can be categorized into Primary schools and secondary schools. The syllabi, the textbooks, exam schedules and even the marking systems at
schools in Burkina Faso are all centrally determined by the Ministry of Basic Education and the Ministry of Higher Education. The education system is greatly influenced by the French model of education.
The schools of Burkina Faso are provided with basic necessary equipment. The private schools in the city provide the great facilities. Schools are less in the rural areas in comparison to the cities. Education is compulsory till the age of sixteen. But very less amounts of students from secondary schools enroll themselves in the secondary schools. The schools of Burkina Faso remain closed on Thursdays.
The children of Burkina Faso enroll themselves in the primary school at the age of seven in class one and continue the study in the primary school till six years. The medium of instruction of the primary school is French.
Secondary schools can be subdivided into Junior high school and Senior high school. The education at Junior high schools lasts for four years and the tenure in the senior high school lasts up to three years culminating in the baccalaureate exam. The curricula of Junior high school include
