Botswana National Rugby Union Team represents the country of Botswana in the rugby union matches. The first international match of rugby was played by the Botswana National Rugby Union Team in the year 1996, on the 7th of September. The National Rugby Union Team of Botswana however lost the match by 130 to 10, against Zimbabwe. The nickname given to the Botswana National Rugby Union Team is “The Vultures”.
The Botswana National Rugby Union Team however tasted their first ever win in the rugby union matches in the year 2001, which was played against Swaziland. In this match, the Botswana team won by 13 to 3. In the year 2003, the Botswana National Rugby Union Team took part in the African qualifying Tournament for the Rugby World Cup that was played in Australia. In 2004, four international matches were won by the team against Tanzania, Nigeria, Swaziland and Mali.
The largest win recorded in the history of the National Rugby Union Team in Botswana is the one played against Nigeria in 2004, which it won by a margin of 37 to 0. Similarly, the worst defeat was tasted by the National Rugby Union Team at Botswana in 1996, against Zimbabwe by 130 to 10. The rugby team however has not qualified to any of the world cup matches till date.
